Framingham State 62, Roger Williams 59

— Junior forward Derek Wigman hit a 3-point shot with 4 seconds remaining to lift the Framingham State College men’s basketball team to a 62-59 victory over visiting Roger Williams in non-conference action.
The Rams (3-3) started the game slowly missing their first 18 shots from the field and falling behind Roger Williams by as many as 17 points. The Rams first hoop came at the 6:14 mark in the first half when Wigman connected on a baseline jumper to pull the Rams within 14 points at 24-10. Wigman finished the first half with 10 points on 4 of 10 shooting while freshman Mike Wooley (Seattle, WA) led the way for Roger Williams with 9 first half points and 3 rebounds. The Rams applied full court pressure and were able to cut the deficit to just 7 points at the half.

In the second half, Roger Williams came out strong and was able to extend their lead to 14 points with 15:27 to play. The Rams applied full court pressure and forced Roger Williams, who had 27 turnovers for the game, to commit 15 second half turnovers and shoot only 27% (6-22) from the floor in the second half. The Rams offense found its rhythm as they shot 50% from the floor in the second half and they were able to take the lead with 4:59 left on a three pointer by sophomore guard Mike Costa. The Rams held two point lead going into the final minute, but junior Brandon Parrish (Lincoln, RI) tied the game on a lay-up with 34 seconds remaining. The Rams worked the ball around in the closing seconds and found Wigman on the left wing for game winning shot.

Wigman finished the game with 18 points and teammates Mike Costa and Tony Washington added 10 apiece for the Rams. For Roger Williams, Wooley finished the game with 16 points and 6 boards, while senior captain Chris Cormier (Trumbull, CT) registered 11 points and ten rebounds. Hawk Junior co-captain Brandon Parrish also added 13 points and five boards in the loss.

The Hawks (0-3) play host to non-conference foe Rhode Island College on Thursday (Dec 1) in their home opener with the tip-off starting at 8:00 p.m.
