Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) scored 12 of his game-high 14 points in the first half as the Anchormen built a 55-32 lead by intermission.
Payette also pulled down seven rebounds as Rhode Island College dominated the glass at both ends of the court, out rebounding FSC, 59-39. The Anchormen’s outstanding rebounding led to 22 second-chance points, and held the Falcons to just nine.
Kamari Williams (Springfield/Cathedral) scored 12 points and dished out five assists. Ondinis Almanzar (New York, NY/Hyde) added 11 points and seven rebounds. Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME/Telstar) and Benjy Nichols (New Haven, CT/Hillhouse) each reached double digits, scoring 11 and 10 respectively.
Eleven of the 14 Anchormen that saw action scored and Rhode Island College received 42 points from reserves.
Dan Koen (Auburn, MA) led Fitchburg with 13 points while Brian Skiffington (North Adams/Hoosac Valley) added eight and Kiki Desormes (Clinton, MA) scored seven.
Fitchburg State (2-2) plays at Becker on Saturday, while Rhode Island College (3-1) returns to action against Roger Williams on Thursday.
