Centre 69, Berea 42

BEREA, Ky. — Second half surge propels Colonels to 69-42 win

After holding a seven point lead at the half, the Centre College men's basketball team outscored Berea College by 20 points in the second half to pull away for a 69-42 win, Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Berea, Ky.

The Colonels, which have now won two straight games, improve to 4-1 overall, while Berea falls to 3-4. It was Centre's final game in the month of November. Over the last three seasons, the Colonels are 11-3 in the season's opening month.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball in the first half. Centre made only nine of 28 (32.1%) from the floor and Berea was 10 of 27 (37.0%). The Colonels did make five three pointer and all eight of their free throw attempts to take a 31-24 lead into the break.

The second half saw the two teams go in different directions. Centre heated up shooting 54.8% (17-31), while holding Berea to only six of 25 shooting (24.0%) from the field. The Colonels outscored Berea 38-18 pushing the lead to as many as 27 points during the second period.

Senior Coy Zerhusen led everyone with game-highs in points with 17 and rebounds with 12. The senior forward made eight of his nine attempts from the floor and grabbed eight defensive rebounds and four offensive rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Junior Matt Jacobson scored 11 points, including three three-pointers and sophomore guard Thomas Britt added 10 points in the win.

Centre will open Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, Saturday, Dec. 3, when it travels to Sewanee, Tenn. to play Sewanee-University of the South. The game will be played as part of a men's and women's doubleheader and will start at 3:00 p.m. CST.
