Becker 68, Wentworth 67

LEICESTER, Mass. — The Becker College Hawks won their home opener by defeating the Wentworth Leopards 68-67 at the Leicester Gymnasium. The Hawks improved their record to 1-3, while the Leopards saw their two-game losing streak come to an end and fall to 2-2.

In a game that saw seven ties and 11 lead changes, and came right down to the wire, the Hawks were led by freshman Anthony Joyner (Worcester, Mass.) who had a team-high 13 points and six rebounds while playing only 15 minutes. Senior Jeff Kotkowski (Melrose, Mass.) had a game-high 23 rebounds, and added four points and three blocked shots.

With Wentworth trailing, 34-33, late in the first half, freshman guard Brad Bryant (Livermore, Maine) capped off a 12-3 run by nailing a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Leopards a 36-34 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Shawn Fuller led the Hawks in second half with nine points; he hit a key three pointer with less than fiveminutes left to put the Hawks ahead 59-57. Wentworth would have the ball with under 10 seconds remaining in the game and trailed by one, but could not connect on an open jumper and the subsequent put back as time expired, giving Becker the 68-67 win.

Wentworth senior Frankie Hall (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) each had a game high 15 points. Junior forward Bryan Gaine (Braintree, Mass.) added 10 rebounds in the loss for the Leopards.

Becker travels to Anna Maria on Thursday evening, while Wentworth hosts Daniel Webster.
