The Student Princes found their comfort zone shooting in the first half, as they would shoot 69 percent from the floor and 70 percent from behind the arc. Thanks to the play of sophomore Andrew Lemmon, who had 11 points at the half, and freshman Chad Szalay’s 10 point performance in the half, the Berg was able to build a comfortable 53-38 lead at the intermission.
The second half proved to be much of the same as the Berg would out-shoot the Lions once again. Sophomore point Shawn Shriver would score nine of his 18 points in the half, with Szalay chipping in another 8 to give him 18 for the game.
Three other Berg players would reach double figures on the night as Lemmon would check out with 14, followed closely by fellow sophomore Brian Schmidt who scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior post Ron Higgins would also hit double digits as he dumped in 12, as well as grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Greg Tyson just missed double digits as he would score nine on the night. PSU-Altoona’s Tyler Franklin led all scorers with 21.
With the win, Heidelberg moves their record to 3-2, while PSU falls to 1-2. The Tricolor hits the floor once again this Saturday as they look to defend their home court against Marietta. Game-time is set for 3:00 p.m.
