Newburgh, NY — Hoyt Reaches Milestone in Mount Victory

Newburgh, NY – In only 54 collegiate games junior Mike Hoyt (Florida, N.Y. / S.S. Seward) joined the 1,000th point club on his third three-pointer of the night. Hoyt sank the triple from the left wing off a pass from Julio Ramirez (Queens, N.Y. / Hyde Prep) with 14:40 remaining in the second half giving the Blue Knights a 63-59 lead. The Mount went on to beat York College 100-89. Hoyt finished with 30 points, 8 assists, and 8 rebounds while senior guard Brandon Weldon (Elmsford, N.Y. / Alexander Hamilton) topped all scorers with a game high 32 on 5-5 from down-town. The Blue Knights shot a blistering 54% (13-24) from behind the arc. York College was led by Christopher Simpson (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Wingate) 25 points and Jeffrey Boone (Rosedale, N.Y. / August Martin) who had 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
In his first two seasons with the Blue Knights Hoyt averaged 18.2 points per game while shooting 47.4% from the field, 42.3% from behind the arc and 74.0% from the foul line. Last season he led the men’s team to their second ever NCAA tournament appearance and was named a Skyline Conference first-team all-star. Mike was also named a Met Basketball Writers Association and D3hoops.com Atlantic Region second-team all-star. He finished last season ranked No. 35 in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.405), No. 44 in three-point field goals per game (2.9), No. 59 in steals per game (2.3), No. 69 in points per game (18.8), and No74 in assists per game (4.5).
In his first year with the Blue Knights Mike was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year. In 2003-2004 he finished ranked No. 12 in the nation in three-point shooting percentage (.439), No. 19 in steals per game (2.8), and No. 65 in three-pointers per game (2.7).
