Louisiana College 86, Sul Ross State 79

11/28/05 — Late First Half Rally Lifts Wildcats over Sul Ross

PINEVILLE, La.- The Sul Ross Lobos established two 11-point, first half
runs Monday night against Louisiana College but the Cats recovered with
a 1-point halftime lead and never looked back as LC took an 86-79 conference
victory over the Lobos.

Sully tied the game late in the second half but never recovered the lead as LC
mustered two, 11-point runs of their own.

Sul Ross sported 4 players in double figures as senior guard Sidney Hooper tallied
a team-best 18 points while supplying 6 rebounds. The El Paso trio of C.J. Acosta,
Tury Escobar and Aaron Hardwick added 16, 14 and 13 points respectively in the
effort. Hooper and Escobar also tallied 3 steals while San Antonio freshman Matt
Santa Cruz supplied 4 assists. Santa Cruz remains perfect at the free-throw line for
the season at 11-11 after Monday’s 4-4 performance.

The Lobos shot 39.4% from the field against the Cats while connecting 17 of 24 foul
Shots, good for 70.8%

LC’s Tim Van led the Cats with 17 points while Josh Martin supplied 8 rebounds.

Sul Ross is looking for their first victory of the young season at 0-3 and 0-2. The Lobos
will open the 2005-06 home season Thursday night at the Pete P. Gallego as they host
the University of the Ozarks in a 7:30 p.m. tip. Sully will then face Austin College on Saturday
at 3:00 p.m. at the Gallego Center.
