The victory marks the best start by the Lady Tigers since the 1999-2000, when ETBU started 3-1 on the way to a 28-4 mark.
The loss drops TLU to 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
Averaging over 88 points per game coming into the contest, the Lady Tigers got off to a slow start with a slim 34-33 halftime advantage. But ETBU came out of the locker room and ran off a 42-26 spurt in the second half to cruise to their fourth straight home win dating back to the end of last season.
Sophomore Candy Vallo pumped in a game-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting, with a 2-for-3 performance from 3-point range. Vallo was also 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
Freshman post Mary Slaughter continued a strong start to her college career, posting 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard Sade’ Stewart finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals as well.
Texas Lutheran was led by 13 points by Sara Kainer and 12 by Amber Bone. Kaley Johnson, who scored 26 points in a win at LeTourneau Saturday, was held to just 5 points by the Lady Tigers.
ETBU, which entered the game with a plus-27 in rebounding margin on the season, again pounded the Bulldogs off the glass. The Lady Tigers ripped down 67 rebounds, with five players – Slaughter, Stewart, Marzetta Shepard (9), Reneida Moody (8) and Tifffany Jefferson (7) – posting at least 7 boards.
