Trinity (Conn.) 64, Babson 32

HARTFORD, Conn. — Junior guard Kino Clarke (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a game-high 21 points and added four steals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 64-32 win over the visiting Babson College Beavers in men’s basketball action this afternoon at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 3-1 with the win in its home opener, while the Beavers drops to 2-2.

Trinity pulled ahead with eight straight points in first half to take a 21-12 lead with 9:28 on the clock, and held the Beavers without a field goal during the opening 7:33 of the second half for a 15-2 run that resulted in a 44-22 lead. The Bantams held Babson to three field goals in 27 attempts in the second half and a 20-percent field goal percentage for the game (11-55). Trinity also outrebounded Babson, 43-31, blocked seven shots, and made 81.3 percent of its shots from the foul line (13-16) including 6-for-6 free throw shooting by Clarke.

Bantam junior guard Patrick Martin (Springfield, Mass.) added 14 points, four assists, and four steals, while senior co-captain forward Tyler Rhoten (Ridgewood, N.J.) finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Sophomore center Russ Martin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led all rebounders with eight and blocked three shots. Senior captain forward Brian Parsons (Queensbury, N.Y.) was the lone Beaver in double figures with 11 points and freshman forward Patrick Belniak (Sutton, Mass.) pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
