Sewanee 112, Rust 102

SEWANEE, Tenn. — Led by Joey Garcia's 19 points, Sewanee had five players in double figures and defeated Rust College, 112-102, in an NCAA Division III men's basketball game at Juhan Gymnasium.

Joining Garcia in double digits were Gary Grizzle (18), Casey Berry (14), and 10 points each by Ben Campbell and Spencer Rowland.

Rust was led by Darnell Toy whose double-double led all players in points 925) and rebounds (10).

Led by Garcia's 11 first half points (three 3s and 2 free throws), Sewanee held a 22-point margin (63-41) at intermission. The Tigers shot 56.8% (21 of 37) in the first 20 minutes, while Rust shot 41.0% (16-39).

Sewanee (3-1) held a 27-point lead (93-66) at 9:16, before the visiting Bearcats (2-3) made a run to cut it to four —100-96 — at 2:01.

First, Rust outscored Sewanee 22-3 to trail 96-88 at 4:38 as Lamont Keaton had seven points and Ramon Myers had six.

Rust then outscored the Tigers, 11-5, as Toy's three consecutive 3s in a 68 second span made the deficit again at four, 103-99 at 1:26, but that was as close as the Bearcats would get.
