Carleton (2-1) shot at an even 50-percent clip and held the Foresters to 30 percent field goal shooting. Jake Phillips added 12 points and six assists for the Knights.
The win allowed the Knights to close out their three-game Chicago road trip with two consecutive wins. They lost their season opener at 22nd-ranked Aurora, but rebounded with wins over the University of Chicago (70-67) yesterday and today’s triumph over Lake Forest.
Carleton trailed, 22-17, after a Brad Rathe tip-in with 8 minutes, 38 seconds remaining in the first half, but Drake drilled a jumper to start the big spree. Drake tallied nine of his 17 points during the stretch, as the Knights limited to Foresters to a mere field goal during the run.
Brad Wehner scored 11 points for Lake Forest (1-3) and Greg Kloh added 10 points. The Foresters shot 26 percent in the second half, making only 5-of-19 attempts, and were 4-for-18 from three-point range in the contest.
Zach Johnson and Dan Forkrud added nine points each for the Knights, who made 23-of-46 field goal attempts and all eight of their free throw attempts.
Carleton returns to action tomorrow, hosting South Australia Sports Institute in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m. at West Gym. The Knights open MIAC play on Wednesday, Nov. 30, traveling to conference preseason favorite University of St. Thomas for an 8 o’clock contest. The game, part of a women’s/men’s doubleheader, can be heard live on KQCL 95.9 FM.
