Freshman forward Tyler Nading scored a career high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field to lead the Bears. He was also 2-of-2 from three-point range in the victory.
Sophomore forward Troy Ruths added 17 points in the win, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Senior center Mike Grunst also scored in double figures with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Senior guard Scott Stone, who scored eight points and knocked down two three-pointers, moved into a tie for sixth place with Kevin Suiter (1984-88) on the all-time WU list with 142 career three-pointers. He also moved into seventh place with 279 career assists.
The Bears led 43-28 at halftime after shooting 55 percent from the field in the opening frame. For the game, WU shot 48 percent from the field and 88 percent (14-16) from the free-throw line.
WU led 60-46 with eight minutes left before the Sagehens mounted a late charge. An 11-3 run cut the lead to 63-57 with four minutes left, but Pomona-Pitzer would get no closer.
Washington University (3-2) returns to action Fri., Dec. 2 when the Bears host the 22nd Annual Lopata Classic at the WU Field House. WU opens play against the University of Dallas Friday at 8 p.m.
