Northwestern slowly built a 15-9 lead midway through the first half. The Eagles extended their advantage to 10 points at 22-12 with 4:04 remaining in the half and finished on a 9-5 run to conclude the first half in front by a score of 31-19. Northwestern’s largest lead of the first twenty minutes of play was 14 points.
The second half began with a 12-4 Eagle run as Northwestern opened up a 20-point lead at 43-23 with 16:03 remaining in the non-conference affair. The Eagles held their advantage and lead by as much as 22-points midway through the final half. Augsburg College slowly chipped away at their deficit and closed to within 11 points at 52-41 with just over 6 minutes remaining in the contest. However, that would prove to be the end of the Auggies’ comeback attempt as Northwestern finished the tussle outscoring Augsburg 13-9 in sealing the 65-50 triumph.
Northwestern drastically cut down on their turnovers, setting a new season-low with just 10 miscues. The Eagles connected on 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the floor. Augsburg College struggled to find their shooting touch, making only 18-of-58 (25.0%) from the floor and 1-of-10 (10.0%) from three-point range. The Auggies owned a 41-32 advantage on the boards.
The Eagles boasted a pair of players with 17 points as junior Maggie Chandler (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) and junior Hannah McEvoy (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West HS) led Northwestern’s offensive efforts. Chandler added 8 rebounds and 6 assists, making 7-of-10 shots from the floor. Julie Ross (New Hope, Minn./Cooper HS) continued to look impressive with her all-around game, notching 9 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. For Augsburg College, sophomore Kristina Lurken (Kenyon, Minn.) was the lone Auggie to reach double-figures for scoring, putting in 10 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Katie LaGrave (Okinawa, Japan) added 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists on the night.
Northwestern College will return to the Ericksen Center for their sixth straight home game on Tuesday, November 29th. The Eagles will clash with Viterbo University at 5:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
