Marymount 73, Immaculata 65

ARLINGTON, VA — The Marymount University men’s basketball team shot over 52 percent for the game and held Immaculata to just 27 percent shooting from the floor for the second half as the Saints won, 73-65 in a non-conference game in the Verizon Sports Arena this afternoon.

The Saints led by one at the half, 37-36, and they allowed the visitors just one second half lead -- at 42-41 -- with 16:15 to go in the game. From that point MU built a 10-point lead, 55-45 at the 8:37 mark only to see the visitors tie the game at 56-56 with just under five minutes to play.

Marymount then built the lead back up to five points and eventually won by eight. Three players were in double figures for the Saints led by Corey Diamond (Mt. Vernon/Alexandria, VA) with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Charles Atakora (Montgomery Blair/Silver Spring, MD) and Marc Mazzuchi (West Springfield/Springfield, VA) each had 14 points. Atakora also pulled down eight rebounds.

Immaculata had the game-high scorer in Reggie Strickland (Central/Philadelphia) with 25 points. Dan Lepone (Abington Friends/Richboro, PA) added 14 points and eight rebounds. IU falls to 0-4 on the year

The Saints, now 2-2, will host St. Mary’s on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in their Capital Athletic Conference opener.
