Centre 65, Huntingdon 56

LAGRANGE, Ga. — Men's basketball moves to 3-1 with 65-56 win

One day after shooting 62.0% from the floor and winning by 25 points, the Centre College men's basketball team allowed its opponent to shoot 56.8%, but still came away with a 65-56 win over Huntingdon College, Saturday, Nov. 26, in LaGrange, Ga.

With the win, the Colonels finished 2-0 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament, host by LaGrange College. Centre improves to 3-1 on the season, while Huntingdon falls to 2-2.

Centre raced out to a 15-4 lead in the first 5:10 of the game. Sophomore Thomas Britt accounted for nine of the 15 points, making three three-pointers. The Hawks answered with a run of their own, outscoring Centre 12-2 to pull within 17-16 at the 8:30 mark.

A 13-6 run, including five more points from Britt, pushed the Colonel lead back to eight points with just over five minutes to play. The lead would move to 11 before two Huntingdon free throws made the score 36-27 Centre, going into the half.

Britt finished with 14 points on five of eight shooting in the half, including four of six from long distance. Senior center Reggie Magnusson added 11 points on four of five shooting.

The Colonels led the entire second half, pushing the lead to as many as 12 (64-52) at one point, before finished with a 65-56 win. Centre shot only 44.0% (22-50) for the game compared to Huntingdon's 56.8% (21-37), but out rebounded the Hawks 30-24, including a 13-6 edge in offensive rebounds.

Britt finished the game with 20 points on 7-11 shooting, including 6-9 from beyond the three-point arc. Magnusson scored a game-high 22 points on 6-9 shooting. The senior center also made nine of 11 free throws and one of his two three-point attempts. Senior Coy Zerhusen finished with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Colonels will return to action, Tuesday, Nov. 29, when they travel to Berea, Ky. to play Berea College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
