Carleton (1-1) led 41-29 at the half and built a 14-point advantage, 58-44, on a basket by Tommy Drake with 8:17 left in the contest. Drake finished with 14 points.
Chicago (3-1) closed to within a point at the 1:30 mark when a pair of foul shots by Nate Hainje made the score 66-65 in favor of the Knights. Forkrud then followed with a basket with 1:06 to go as Carleton regained a three-point lead.
The Maroons had a chance to tie the game as time expired but a long three-point attempt fell off the front of the rim, sending Chicago to its first defeat of the year.
Hainje and Brandon Woodhead shared the game scoring lead with 17 points each.
Jake Phillips collected 12 points and seven assists for Carleton, which connected on nine of 13 three-point tries (69.2%) in the first half and 10 of 17 for the game (58.5%).
Both teams struggled from the foul line as Chicago shot 50% (12-for-24) and Carleton 56% (10-for-18)
