WASHINGTON, D.C. — Junior Malcolm Thomas scored 10 of his 16 points after intermission and senior Kris Clarkson netted 21 points overall for Widener, which notched a 72-62 victory over Hood at the Gallaudet Holiday Tournament.

Thomas also closed with 10 rebounds to help Widener (4-0) own a 38-33 edge. Clarkson shot 9-of-15 from the floor in addition to grabbing nine rebounds and junior Essien Ford poured in 17 points.

Hood (2-3) moved to 57-54 with 9:10 left on Sean Robine's 3-pointer. But Widener scored the next five points for a 62-54 margin with 7:08 remaining and the lead did not dip below six. Ford hit two jumpers in that stretch.

Widener outscored Hood, 41-26, in the second half by shooting 56 percent (14-of-25) and holding the opposition to just 25 percent (7-of-28). This effort came just three days after the Pioneers outscored Chestnut Hill, 36-19, in the second half for a 70-45 win.

The Pioneers shot 50 percent (29-of-58) overall and the Blazers hit just 36 percent (20-of-56).

Widener on Saturday faces Gallaudet in the championship game at 3:00 pm.
