MAUI, Hawaii — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (0-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its 2006 season on Wednesday, Nov. 23 with a 78-75 loss to Concordia University (Calif., 2-1) in the Maui Classic at Maui High School in Hawaii. Carthage had the ball on the baseline with one second to play in the game but could not get a shot off. Trey Bowens led the Redmen with 15 points. Mark Morrison had 14 points, and Mike Hart, who fouled out of the game, added 12 points. The Redmen’s Brian Schlemm has an injured ankle and did not make the Hawaii trip. On Friday, Nov. 25, Carthage will play Westmont College (2-1) at 1 p.m., HST/5 p.m., CST), and on Saturday, Nov. 26, the Red Men will play a second game against Concordia (Calif.) at 11 a.m., HST/3 p.m., CST.
