(Nov. 22, 2005) - Senior forward BJ Hamby (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) scored a game-high 24 points and
grabbed eight rebounds as Kean used a 29-5 run spanning both halves to record a 76-53 victory over William Paterson in both teams' New Jersey Athletic Conference opener Tuesday night at the William Paterson Rec Center.
Senior forward Armet Coles Jr. (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) added 15 points and eight caroms as the Cougars (2-1, 1-0 NJAC) shot 46.7 percent and owned sizable advantages over the Pioneers (1-2, 0-1 NJAC) on points in the paint (40-20) and points off turnovers (23-14). Sophomore guard Bryan Keller (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) added 12 points and sophomore guard Lamar Wright (Galloway, NJ/Absegami) chipped in 10.
Sophomore guard Tyreck Rolon (Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) led William Paterson with 10 points, while sophomore guard Jason Cameron (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) and junior forward Samir Sanu (Edison, NJ/Sayreville) each had eight. The Pioneers shot just 33.3 percent (19-for-57) from the floor and just 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from the foul line, although 12 different players entered the scoring column.
William Paterson held a 25-19 lead after Sanu hit a 3-pointer with 4:58 left in the first half before Kean scored 12 of the next 14 points to take a 31-27 advantage into intermission. The Cougars used a 17-3 spurt to start the second half as Hamby dropped in seven of his points.
William Paterson returns to action Saturday, Nov. 26, when it hosts non-conference opponent Manhattanville at 1 p.m. Kean resumes play Wednesday, Nov. 30, when it travels to oppose defending NJAC champion Ramapo at 7:30 p.m.
