The Owls improved to 2-1 while Elms dropped to 1-2.
The game was tied 14 times and there were 10 lead changes before Jurkowski took control in the final seven minutes with his scoring and passing prowess.
With Westfield trailing 60-55 with 7:35 remaining, the 6-4 power forward scored nine straight points over a two-minute span to give the Owls a 66-64 lead with 5:28 remaining.
Jurkowski gave Westfield the lead for good, 72-70, on a jumper at the 3:36 mark. The Owls then scored six straight points for a 78-70 lead with 1:31 remaining.
Jurkowski was 12 for 17 from the field but only made 4 of 10 free throws.
Junior forward Curtis Gadles – a transfer from Mt. Ida – scored 17 for Westfield and junior guard Gavin Illangakoon (Ellington, CT) added 11 points and four assists. Senior forward James Ogbunize (Springfield Sci-Tech) had a solid game with eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
David Williams led Elms with 16 points followed by Justin Davis with 15. Lonnie Branyon posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Owls only made 15 of 30 free throws; however, Elms was just 3 for 8 from the foul line.
