Wentworth 99, Mount Ida 65

BOSTON, Massachusuetts — The Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s basketball team (2-1) scored the first 14 points of the game and never looked back, downing Mount Ida (0-3), 99-65, in a non-league contest played at Tansey Gymnasium.

During the 14-0 run to start the game, senior forward Frankie Hall (Boston, Mass.) scored 10 points, while junior forward Bryan Gaine (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore guard Ed Bolton (Silver Springs, Md.) each scored two. After the Mustangs got on the board nearly four minutes into the contest, the Leopards used an 11-0 run, capped off by a fast break lay-up by freshman guard Matt McDonnell (West Paris, Maine), to take a 25-2 lead with 12:20 left.

Mount Ida finally scored its first field goal, a three pointer by freshman guard Gino DiPietro (Westbrook, Maine), with 12:10 left in the half. Wentworth would build its lead back up to as much as 22 (33-11) with under eight minutes left before the Mustangs started chipping away and would outscore the Leopards by a 26-14 margin to close out the half, trailing by 10 (47-37). During the spurt, junior guard Andreas Vasiliu (Newton, Mass.) scored 11 points, while sophomore guard Mike Dunham (Salem, N.H.) chipped in with five points of his own.

After senior forward Scott Chamberlin (Millis, Mass.) hit one of two free throws to open the second half and cut the lead to single digits for the first time since early in the game, the Leopards used a 19-9 spurt to take a 66-47 lead with 12:49 left. After Chamberlin hit a jumper to trim the lead to 66-49, Wentworth held the Mustangs without a point for the next 4:39 and scored 10 of their own to break the game open.

Hall led the Leopards with 20 points (on 9-for-14 shooting) to go along with 13 rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) chipped in with 18 points and three assists, while freshman guard Todd Doyle (Mystic, Conn.) came off the bench to score 16 points (on 8-for-14) shooting, to go along with five rebounds and five assists.
