Lesesne also finished the contest with seven assists, falling three shy of posting a triple-double. He scored the first bucket of the contest and then assisted on the Seahawks' next score, a three-pointer from junior guard Valdez Preston giving them a 5-3 lead. They would not relinquish that lead the entire evening, leading by as much as 15 points in the first half before settling for a 47-36 edge at the break.
McDaniel reduced the deficit to 47-38 with a pair of free throws from junior center Jemar Daniel on their opening possession of the second half, but they would not be able to close the gap any further. The Seahawks pushed the lead to as many as 22 points in the second half after a lay-up from junior forward Spencer Way III at the 5:59 mark.
After both teams emptied their benches, the Green Terror got to within nine points again at 94-85 after a made three-pointer from junior guard Joe Hunter with 28 seconds remaining. Junior guard Matt LeVine sealed the win for the Seahawks with two free throws with 19 seconds remaining.
The contest was the first home victory for first-year head coach Chris Harney and came against former St. Mary's coach, Bob Flynn, who coached Harney in the mid-90's.
Sophomore guard T.J., Jordan added 19 points for the Seahawks. Preston added 14 points and nine rebounds while Way III contributed with 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Senior guard Mike Dipiero scored 16 points with a game-high eight assists in leading the Green Terror. Senior guard Will Talesnick added 15 points while Hunter posted 12 points. Daniel contributed with ten points on 3-of-6 shooting with four rebounds while freshman guard Ryan Finch scored seven points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
St. Mary's will return to action on Monday, November 28, when they travel to Villa Julie for a non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 p.m.
