Vermillion, S.D. — Simpson (1-2) lost 83-69 to Division II's 23rd ranked team, South Dakota (3-0) Nov. 22 in Vermillion, S.D. The Coyotes outscored the Storm 18-8 over the final 8:15 of the first half to take a 43-27 lead into recess. South Dakota pushed the lead to as much as 20 early in the closing frame, but the Storm chipped away with Adam Thorson's jumper cutting the lead to eight, 64-56 with 8:19 remaining.

The Coyotes got the lead back up to 12 with 5:49 to go, but Simpson again closed to within eight when Jason Parkinson made 1-of-2 free throws at the 4:19 mark. South Dakota went on a 7-0 run to get the lead back into double digits and go onto the final 83-69 margin of victory.

South Dakota's Turner Trofholz, the preseason Division II Player of the Year, led all scorers with 19 points. Dustin Little had 15 while Jesse Becker and Eric Hall had 14 and 12 respectively.
The Storm were led by Ryan Hittenmiller who scored 15 points. He added three assists and two steals. Jason Soppe, the current Iowa Conference Player of the Week, had 14 points and eight rebounds. Thorson came off the bench to record 12 points and two steals.
