RUTGERS NEWARK OUTLASTS RAMAPO
Roadrunners Fall to Scarlet Raiders, 80-88 In NJAC Action

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men’s basketball team played host to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers Newark opening the 2005-2006 NJAC season at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. The Roadrunners recorded an 80-88 loss falling to 2-1 overall, 0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Rutgers Newark improves to 3-0, 1-0 in the conference.

Within the first two and a half minutes of the game, the Scarlet Raiders had two technical fouls called against them helping the Roadrunners to a 12-2 start. RASHAWN WILSON (Jersey City, NJ) slammed a dunk to start the night sparking a 7-0 Ramapo run in the opening minutes. Rutgers Newark answered with an 8-0 run closing the gap, 12-10. The Roadrunners held the lead until the sixth minute when Phillipe Slater (Newark, NJ) hit a jumper tying the game at 14, and sunk the and one to take a one point lead. Rutgers Newark held the lead for the final minutes and spread the gap to as many as nine, ending the half, 45-36 over the Roadrunners. Ramapo shot 11-25 (44%) in the half behind Rutgers Newark’s 17-30 (58%).

The Scarlet Raiders took complete control of the second half hitting 12 from the field out of their 20 attempts shooting 58% on the night. The Roadrunners hit 16-36 in the half, 44% on the night. The Scarlet Raiders spread their lead to as many as 13 in the half and wrapped up the night eight points ahead of Ramapo, 88-80.

WILSON finished the night on top of the Roadrunners with 14 points shooting 4-8 from the field. WILSON recorded seven boards and added one assist. TODD LOWBER (Riverside, NJ) and MIKE MALKO (Hillsborough, NJ) each contributed 12 points while ANTOINE PRYOR (Elizabeth, NJ) and AHMAD MOSBY (Jersey City, NJ) netted 11 and ten points respectively. PRYOR dished out a team high three assists and senior QUAMEIR HARDING (Jersey City, NJ) grabbed a team high four steals in the loss. For the Scarlet Raiders, Stephen Taylor (Ewing, NJ) led the way hitting 6-8 from the floor and 9-12 from the line recording 21 points while Chadd Barnes (Newark, NJ) followed with 16 points of his own. Justin Carter (Paterson, NJ) dished out a team high five assists and four steals in the win.

The Roadrunners will host Kean University on Wednesday, November 30th at 7:30 PM while the Scarlet Raiders travel to New Jersey City on the 30th for an 8:00 PM tip-off.
