Oken-Berg was 8-for-10 from the floor and added six rebounds and three blocked shots for Carleton (1-0). The five Carleton first-year players scored 41 of Carleton's 69 points, as Sarah Kunelius dropped in nine off the bench and Sarah Lincoln and Anna Biewen added eight points each.
Annie Isler added nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting with four rebounds and three steals in her first collegiate game and her first competition since March 2004, as she missed all of last season with an injury.
The Scots (0-3), who cancelled their 2004-05 season after their roster whittled down to six players in lae December 2004, were paced by Elise Pagel's 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. Under the direction of former St. Thomas standout and rookie head coach Ellen Thompson, the Scots played 10 different players and will get a roster boost when three soccer players join the team in the coming weeks. Macalester, a MIAC member, is playing half of the conference's round-robin schedule and is an independent this season in hopes of playing a full conference slate in 2006-07.
Carleton started slowly, but a 25-5 run over a 12-minute span swelled the Knights' advantage to 30-9 as they would take a commanding 37-11 spread into the lockerroom. The Knights shot 45 percent in the first half and held the Scots to only five field goals on 23 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.
Carleton head coach Tammy Metcalf-Filzen was able to distribute playing time fairly evenly among all 12 players, with nine different players scoring for the Knights.
The 29 points scored was the third-lowest for a Carleton opponent. The Knights held Augsburg College to 27 points in a Jan. 25, 2003, contest, and limited two foes to 20 points in their first season, 1973-74.
Carleton returns to action at the Viking Classic, hosted by North Park University. The Knights face the host Vikings on Friday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m., and then play Kenyon College (Ohio) on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 3 p.m. Both games can be heard live on Knights Online.
