Drew 62, John Jay 61

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Playing their home opener in front of a packed house on Tuesday night the John Jay College of Criminal Justice women's basketball team dropped a close one, losing 62-61 to Drew University.

After jumping out quickly and to a 15 point lead (22-7) 8 minutes into the contes, the Rangers chipped away at the lead and narrowed the deficit to 8 at 33-25 before halftime.

In the second half reestablished a double-digit lead, and led by as much as 12 (43-31) with 16:44 to go. But Drew went on a 14-2 run over the next 5:38 to tie. But John Jay went on a 6-2 run to take a 4-point lead.

The Rangers then went on a 13-2 run over the several minutes to take a 7 point lead and put the game away.

John Jay did come back with a valiant effort over the final 2:17, going on a 7-2 run to close the gap, but 2 clutch free throws by Courtney Cunningham (Garden City, NY/ Our Lady of Mercy) proved to be enough as Drew holds on for the win.

Lasannen Hogue (Yonkers, NY/ Roosevelt) led the way for the Bloodhounds with 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals.

Liesel-Ann Amow (Brooklyn, NY/ Boys and Girls) notched 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals, while Michelle Wallace (Flushing, NY/ Robert F. Kennedy) provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

John Jay shot 54 percent for the game (26-for-48), including 60 percent (15-for-25) in the first half.
