Babson trailed the Lions (0-3) early on, as senior Steve Georgoulis scored eight points in leading Emerson to a 15-6 advantage. However, the Babson defense clamped down in the final 10 minutes of the first half, limiting the home team to just 10 points during that stretch to take a 35-30 lead into the break.
The Beavers continued to maintain their advantage in the second half, going up by as many as 11 on three different occasions. Emerson would make a late run to get back into the game, but Beavers' senior captain Brian Parsons scored eight points down the stretch, including six on free throws, to help Babson seal the 76-72 win.
Parsons led the Beavers with a season-high 17 points, hitting 5-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the line. Babson also received outstanding efforts from first-year forwards Zach Etten, who scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, including five off the offensive glass, and Pat Belniak, who added nine points on perfect 4-of-4 shooting from the field. Sophomores David Votta, Chris Bradley, and Kyle McDonald gave the Beavers solid minutes off the bench. Votta recorded eight points, three assists, and two steals, Bradley contributed nine points, and McDonald finished with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot.
Georgoulis led all players with 33 points, hitting 10-of-17 from the floor and 13-of-18 from the free throw line. The senior also posted game-highs of 11 rebounds and four steals. Guard Will Dawkins also played well for the Lions, scoring 13 points and dishing out four assists.
Babson returns to action with a road game at Trinity on Sunday, November 27. That contest will begin at 2 p.m.
