Widener 70, Chestnut Hill 45

PHILADELPHIA — Seniors Brooke Tidswell and Kris Clarkson each posted a double-double as Widener scored 15 straight second-half points for a 70-45 victory at Chestnut Hill in Philadelphia.

Widener's decisive run turned a 38-32 lead with 16:37 left into a 53-32 edge with 12:34 to go. Junior Malcolm Thomas scored five points in that stretch, including a 3-point play, and Tidswell added four.

That helped the Pioneers (3-0) shoot 45 percent (17-of-38) from the field after intermission and hold the Griffins to just 21 percent (8-of-38). Widener outscored Chestnut Hill, 36-19, in the second half.

Tidwell finished with 20 points on 10-of-19 shooting with 10 rebounds over just 29 minutes. Clarkson, the reigning Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, had 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting with 14 rebounds in just 18 minutes.

Junior Essien Ford closed with 14 points for the Pioneers, who shot 43 percent (32-of-75) overall and owned a 54-39 rebounding edge.

Widener continues its five-game season-opening road trip Friday at the Gallaudet Holiday Tournanment in Washington, DC. The squad plays Hood in the opener and either John Jay or the host on Saturday.
