Yuan gave the Engineers (2-1) their only lead of the first half by sinking a jumper during the opening possession. After trading baskets, the Amcats (0-1) went on to build an 11-point advantage (27-16) with less than seven minutes remaining. Soo Hoo sparked the comeback with a trey at the 5:47 mark, giving Tech its first field goal in almost six minutes. A basket by Samantha O’Keefe followed by a three-point play and a three-pointer from Yuan cut the deficit to two (29-27). Anna Maria extended its lead to five before MIT answered with a put-back by Cherelle Walls and another trey from Yuan. Back-to-back baskets by the Amcats were countered with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer from Soo Hoo to close the half with a 37-37 tie.
Behind the efforts of Christa Margossian, Yuan, and O’Keefe, the Engineers established a four-point lead (45-41) at 16:31. The next 13 minutes would be marked with four lead changes and five ties. Walls collected the rebound off her missed basket and found Yuan who set-up Soo Hoo for the go-ahead three-pointer (72-69). On Anna Maria’s ensuing possession, Walls grabbed another carom which resulted in a basket by Margossian. A pair of free-throws from Meghan DePatsy brought her squad within three (74-71) with 1:43 left on the clock. MIT responded with a jumper by Sharon Prange on its next possession. In the next 13 seconds, Jen Hurley drained a three to narrow the margin to two (76-74). Andrea Dooley answered by sinking her first three-pointer of the game with 41 seconds to go. Yuan gave the Engineers their largest advantage of the game (80-74) by making one of two shots from the charity stripe. A three-pointer by Tina Oliveri was followed by a foul that sent Dooley to the free-throw line with two seconds left to play. Despite missing the first shot, she sealed the win on her second attempt.
Soo Hoo led all-scorers with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 from three-point range. She also dished out a game-high five assists. Yuan totaled 21 points while Walls tallied 14 points and eight rebounds. Margossian grabbed a game-high 11 boards and finished with nine points and two steals.
