Wentworth 96, Maine-Presque Isle 52

FARMINGTON, Maine — Sophomore guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, Conn.) scored a game-high 26 points (on 9-of-14 shooting) to go along with eight rebounds as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men’s basketball team earned its first victory of the season with a 96-52 win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle in the consolation game of the 2005 Hight Chevrolet Tip-Off Tournament, held at the University of Maine-Farmington.

With the exception of a tie at 14-all with just under 12:00 remaining in the first half, the Leopards led from start to finish, as Prezzie-Blue netted 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting in the first half. Wentworth’s largest lead of the half came when freshman guard Brad Bryant (West Paris, Maine) drilled a three-pointer to put the Leopards up by 14 (34-20) with 3:41 left. The Owls would eventually trim the lead to eight (40-32) at the end of the half on a jumper by Brett Miles.

Leading 59-44 with 11:33 left, the Leopards used a 20-2 run over the next 8:30 to take a 79-46 lead and never look back. During the run, Prezzie-Blue had seven points, while freshman guard Jeff Cappa (Waterbury, Conn.) buried a pair of three-pointers.

Junior forward Bryan Gaine (Braintree, Mass.) scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Cappa with 10 points to round out Wentworth’s double-digit scorers. Senior forward Frankie Hall (Boston, Mass.) grabbed eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Ed Bolton (Silver Springs, Md.) dished out four assists and had three steals. Miles, who was named to the all-tournament team with Prezzie-Blue, lead UMPI with 22 points.
