RAMAPO NAMED ROADRUNNER TIP-OFF

Ramapo’s Wojcik Tournament MVP
Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College men’s basketball team earned 1st place in the 2005 Roadrunner Annual Tip-Off Tournament today at the Bradley Center in Mahwah. Ramapo defeated FDU-Florham 72-55 improving to 2-0 on the year. FDU falls to 1-1. In the consolation game, Yeshiva University came out on top of Medgar Evers, 64-47 improving to 1-1 overall. Medgar Evers falls to 0-2.
Championship Game: The Roadrunners fell behind in the opening minutes 4-10 before RASHAWN WILSON (Jersey City, NJ) hit a lay-up closing the gap, 6-10 and sparking a Ramapo 8-0 run to take the lead 14-10 with just over nine minutes to play in the half. The Roadrunners continued to jump ahead spreading the gap to as many as 16, ending the half, 35-19 ahead of the Devils. Ramapo shot 13-29 (45%) in the first 20 minutes with junior JOHN WOJCIK (Sayreville, NJ) leading the way with 12 points, 3-6 from the arc. WILSON posted seven first half points for the team. FDU collapsed in the half sinking only five of their 20 attempts, 25%.
In the final minutes of the game, Ramapo jumped ahead by 19 after a second 8-0 run and spread the lead to 24 with a 7-0 run shortly after. Ramapo took the lead by 25 in the second and finished the night 17 points ahead of the Devils, 72-55. WILSON and WOJCIK wrapped up the game with 12 points each shooting a combined 8-21 while senior TODD LOWBER (Riverside, NJ) recorded 12 points of his own shooting 6-10 from the floor. LOWBER and WILSON combined for ten boards and ANTOINE PRYOR (Elizabeth, NJ) dished out a team high eight assists. Ramapo shot 45% on the night while FDU improved to 38% for the game. FDU’s Pierre Schmitt (Park Ridge, NJ) led the Devils with a double-double hitting 4-7 from the field, and 4-7 from the line for 12 points. Schmitt grabbed ten rebounds in the loss. Brian Dillon (West Orange, NJ) and Brian Rimol (Randolph, NJ) each added eight points for the team.
Consolation Game: In the first match-up of the night, Yeshiva University defeated Medgar Evers, 64-47 led by Roy Goldstein (Israel) and Harel Vatavu (Ramat-Gan) who each netted 23 points. Vatavu grabbed eight boards and Goldstein added seven of his own. For Medgar Evers, Perry Wilkes (Brooklyn, NY) led the team hitting 4-16 from the field and 4-5 from the line for 14 points while dishing out a team high three assists. Yeshiva shot 26-56 46% over Medgar’s 16-53, 30%.
The Roadrunners will host Rutgers Newark on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:30 PM for the opening of the 2005 NJAC season.
