In the consolation game, John Jay College cruised past Keystone College, 62-43, as three Bloodhounds reached double figures.
Both teams started the combine with the hot shooting touch, as they combined to hit 15-of-23 from the field for a 16-16 tie just 5:21 into the contest. The Cougars followed with six straight points to take the lead for good, as they outscored the Comets 34-14 over the rest of the opening half to take a 50-30 lead at halftime.
In the opening half, Cooper netted 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and freshman guard Ebony Jackson (Newark, N.J.) and freshman forward Marvella Nelson (Newark, N.J.) scored 12 points and 11 points respectively for Kean. For the Comets, junior guard Audrey Graham (Battle Creek, Mich.) had 13 points in the first half, including 11 of the team’s first 16 points.
The Cougars extended the lead to as many as 24 points on two occasions in the second half en-route to the 21-point victory.
In the victory, Cooper finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, including eight offensive boards, for her second-straight double-double. Jackson netted a career-high 17 points and finished with four steals and four assists, while junior forward Chi Clark (Maplewood, N.J.) and freshman guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) each added 10 points apiece.
For the Comets, Graham finished with 23 points and three assists, as she averaged 25 points a game for the tournament. Also reaching double figures for Olivet, junior guard Jennifer O’Neil (Avondale, Mich.) added 11 points and five steals.
