BUFFALO, NY — Buffalo State Hangs Tough at UB; Bulls Prove Too Big and Strong

Buffalo State (2-1) and University at Buffalo (2-0) renewed their rivalry today after a 17-year hiatus, with the Division I Bulls recording a 54-point second half en route to a 96-61 victory in front of a crowd of 3,064 today at Alumni Arena.

After early jitters by the Bengals, Buffalo State hung with the full-scholarship program for much of the first half, before trailing 42-31 at the break. Buffalo State opened the second half with a quick 5-0 run to pull within six, but three straight turnovers sent UB off to the races. The bigger Bulls outrebounded Buffalo State 49-29 and outscored the Bengals in the paint, 36-16.

Gregg Jones led Buffalo State's offense with 16 points on 6 of 11 shooting. James Williams added 11 points and a team-high five rebounds. Dion Mozelle added seven points and four boards for Buffalo State.

Parnell Smith led five Bulls in double figures with 19 points. Calvin Cage and Mario Jordan added 16 points each, Rodderick Middleton added 12, and Vadim Fedotov had 10 points and nine boards.

After three games in three days, Buffalo State will get a well-deserved rest until Tuesday, November 29, when it will open its SUNYAC schedule at home against Fredonia at 8 p.m.
