New Paltz State 93, Medaille 66

Clinton, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team captured their first win of the season this afternoon in the second round consolation game against Medaille College at the Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament.

With 11:15 remaining in the first half, junior forward John Hauser (East Williston, NY) converted a lay-up to give the Hawks a 12 point edge, Medaille College (0-2) would never crack the Hawks’ double-digit lead. From that point on, SUNY New Paltz (1-1) dominated the game and took a 55-35 lead into half time. Junior forward Bobby Kaible’s (Saugerties, NY) eight points sparked SUNY New Paltz carrying the momentum into the second half, where the Hawks’ lead reached 29 at its highest. The Mavericks could not defend the hot shooting of SUNY New Paltz, who shot 57.9% from behind the arch in the game.

Four Hawks finished the evening in double figures. Senior guard Keith Crichlow (Central Islip, NY) scored a team high18 points and added four assists, Hauser had 16 points and seven rebounds and was later named to the All-Tournament Team. Junior guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) fueled the offense with 13 points and eight assists. Kaible totaled 11 points in the win for SUNY New Paltz.

Sophomore guard Scott Hack (Angola, IA) led Medaille College with 16 points and four rebounds, while sophomore forward James McNeil (Erie, PA) finished with 15 points

The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team will return to action on Tuesday November 22 at 8:00 pm, when they host Mount Saint Mary’s College in their home opener.
