Mount Aloysius 104, Waynesburg 90

CRESSON, Pa. — A night after shooting over 60 percent, Waynesburg struggled to shot 40 percent in its 104-90 loss to Mt. Aloysius in the championship game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament host by the Mounties. Juniors Jeff Nero and Beau Wilson each scored 21 points on Saturday, as the Yellow Jackets saw their record drop to 1-1.

Nero, a 6-1 forward, made 9-of-19 attempts from the field, including three three-pointers, while grabbing four rebounds (3 offense, 1 defense) in 22 minutes.

Wilson continued his high-scoring start, sinking 50 percent (7 of 14) of his shots and all four of his free throws. The three-year starter finished the tournament with 56 points on 16-of-26 attempts, while also making 17 of 19 free-throw attempts.

While Waynesburg struggled to find its shooting touch, Mt. Aloysius shot a solid .519 from the floor and were led offensively by Roman Mims and Justin Ohler, who combined for 55 points. Mims scored a game-high 31, while Ohler posted a double-double with 24 points and a game-best 10 rebounds.

The Yellow Jacket bench outscored the Mountie reserves 29-23, including 15 from junior transfer Jeff Linden. Linden, a guard, lettered last season while playing at Albright College in Reading, Pa.

Linden made three straight baskets for Waynesburg in the middle of the second half, giving the Yellow Jackets a 71-64 lead. However, the Mounties engineered a 20-4 run over the next minutes to take command of the game.

The Yellow Jackets scored a combined 185 points in their first two contests, their highest two-game output to start a season since the 1998-1999 season when they scored 187, including a single-game school-record 128 in the opener.

Waynesburg continues its early-season action with a contest at Frostburg State (Md.) on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. The Yellow Jackets own a 45-25 advantage over the Bobcats in the all-time series, while FSU has won the last two meetings, including an 85-80 victory last season in Waynesburg.
