Martinez eclipsed his previous career highs of 27 points and 16 rebounds set Feb. 19, 2005, in a 103-45 victory over Rutgers-Camden as the Pioneers evened their season record at 1-1.
Senior guard Kelvin DeLosAngeles (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) added 10 points for William Paterson while sophomore guard Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) contributed eight points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds.
William Paterson led 38-29 at halftime and extended its lead in the second half, forcing Mitchell (0-2) to hit just 7 of its 28 shots after intermission while limiting the opposition to 36.7 percent shooting overall (18-for-49). The Pioneers also owned a 42-28 rebounding edge.
Jashone Cunningham scored 19 points to lead Mitchell, while teammate T.J. Smith chipped in 13.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, Nov. 22, for their home and New Jersey Athletic Conference opener against Kean University. Tip-off time is 8 p.m.
