In the first half it was a battle for the lead, as Maryville gained the lead a total of six times and Hanover had the lead a total of seven times, including an eight point advantage heading into halftime. The Saints would hold the Panthers' lead to less than eight points the entire second half and would tie the game a total of four times in the half.
Head coach Matt Rogers and his squad put themselves in a position to win the game, as they trailed by only three points with 1:35 remaining on the clock, but Hanover's Brian Chrin would sink two free throws and Marc O'Leary would make a layup in the final 47 seconds of the game to secure the seven point victory for their team.
Maryville had four players score in double digits, including junior Jason Rezabek, who led the Saints with 15 points on 5-of-6 (.833) shooting from the field and 5-of-7 (.714) shooting from the charity stripe. Senior Matt Regan, who was named to the All-Classic Team, finished 10-of-11 (.909) from the free throw line and recorded 12 points and a game-high four assists. Fellow senior Ryan Klein also tallied 12 points, while senior Stephen Bash had 11 points, four assists and a team-high six rebounds.
Hanover had just two players score in double figures. Clint Parker, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Classic, scored a game-high 25 points on 7-of-14 (.500) shooting from the field, including 5-of-8 (.625) from behind the arc and 6-of-6 (1.000) from the charity stripe. Chrin, who was also named to the All-Classic Team, finished with 20 points and six rebounds.
Hanover finished 2-0 at the Classic, while Maryville went 0-2. The Saints will look to pick up their first win of the season when they return to action on Tuesday, November 22, in a 7:30 pm game at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Ill.
