Hamilton 82, Messiah 68

CLINTON, N.Y. — Tim Welchons '06 led all scorers with 23 points to help Hamilton College capture its own Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament title with an 82-68 win against Messiah College at Scott Field House on Nov. 19.

Hamilton (2-0 overall) hosts SUNY Brockport for another non-league game on Sunday, Nov. 27, at 7. Messiah dropped to 1-1. SUNY New Paltz (1-1) enjoyed an easy 93-66 win against Medaille College (0-2) in the tournament's consolation game.

Phil Valenti '06 added 15 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists for Hamilton. Giorgi Chavleishvili '08 chipped in 14 points and seven boards. Nick Jones '07 posted nine points and eight caroms. Messiah was led by Jared Yoder '07, who scored 21 points. Matt Henninger '07 tossed in 14 and Zach Wiernicki '06 registered 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Hamilton held a slim 41-40 lead at the half, but the Continentals scored the first eight points of the second half and led by at least five points the rest of the game.

Keith Crichlow '06 scored a game-high 18 points for New Paltz. John Hauser '07 added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Matt Irwin '07 scored 13 points and handed out a game-high eight assists. Bobby Kaible '07 chipped in 11 points off the bench. Scott Hack '08 made 4-of-6 three-point attempts and finished with 16 points for Medaille. James McNeil '08 knocked down 15 and blocked two shots. New Paltz led 55-35 at the half. The Hawks shot 54.5 percent (36-66) from the field, including 57.9 percent (11-19) from three-point range.
