Hickey earned Tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors for Wheaton (2-0), which jumped out to 40-22 halftime lead over the host Blazers in Saturday’s title game.
Elms College, however, used a 15-5 run in the first 4:19 of the second half to pull to within 45-37.
The Blazers were sparked by junior forward Martha Arment (Lee, MA) and sophomore point guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) during that stretch. Arment netted six of her team-high 12 points, while Fernandes added five of her nine points.
Wheaton responded by scoring 27 of the game’s final 35 points to seal the victory. Freshman guard Bri Smith (Westford, MA) registered 13 points and junior forward Kim McCormack (Milton, MA), who was also named to the All-Tournament Team, added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Lyons in the victory.
Senior forward Danielle Dugre (Holyoke, MA) joined Fernandes as Elms College’s two All-Tournament Team representatives as she registered eight points and pulled down 13 points.
In the consolation game, junior forward Albertus Magnus junior forward Candace Young (Hartford, CT) poured in a game-high 25 points and the Falcons had three players reach double figures en route to a 70-40 over MCLA.
Young earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Falcons (1-1) after knocking down 12 of 15 shots from the field and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds in 32 minutes.
Junior guard Kristen Lewis (Johnsonville, NY) scored a team-high 12 points for MCLA (0-2) en route to earning All-Tournament Team honors for the Trailblazers.
