New York University 72, Drew 49

MADISON, NJ — The New York University men's basketball team captured the Rose City Classic Championship with a 72-49 victory over host Drew University on Saturday, November 19, in Madison, New Jersey.

Junior Jason Boone, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, led NYU with 18 points, 15 coming in the second half. Junior Michael DeCorso recorded a "double-double", posting 17 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Daniel Falcon chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Senior Jared Kildare got the Violets off to a fast start in the game, scoring all 11 of his points in the first half.

The Violets used a 13-2 run early in the first half to open up a 20-9 lead. NYU kept the pressure on and opened up an 18-point lead, 40-22, at halftime.

NYU jumped out to a 20-point lead with 16:21 in the game, but Drew came back to cut the score to 48-40 with 11:04 remaining.

That was as close as the Rangers would get. NYU outscored Drew 24-9 over the final 11 minutes. In a five-minute span, Boone scored 11 of the Violets' 13 points, including two monstrous dunks.

NYU's largest lead of the game (25) came in the closing minute when they went up 72-47. A Drew basket with five seconds left made the final 72-49.

The Violets dominated the Rangers on the boards 42-23. NYU also managed to shoot 52% from the field.

Bob Carella led Drew (1-1) in scoring with 14 points, while Chris Lopez finished with 13.

The Violets' DeCorso and Kildare were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

NYU returns to action on Saturday, November 26, when they face Elmira in the NYU Thanksgiving Tournament. Tip-off is set for 6 pm.
