Albion 78, DePauw 70

ALBION, Mich. — Five Tigers scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as DePauw fell to eighth-ranked Albion 78-70 in the third place game of the Greater Albion Chamber of Commerce Tournament. The Tigers dropped to 0-2 with the loss, while the Britons improved to 1-1.


The Tigers scored the game's first seven points before Albion put together a 13-2 run to take the lead for good. DePauw was still within two in the first half before the Britons pulled away for a 37-28 halftime lead.

Albion pushed the margin to double digits with a high of 14 points on three occasions, but DePauw closed the gap to as little as four at 64-60 on Stephen Schott's dunk with 4:49 left. The Britons then scored five straight to start an 8-2 run that put the game away.

Alex Stewart led the Tigers with 15 points followed by Matt McDonald with 12, Schott with 11 and Michael Moore and Derek King with 10 apiece. Schott grabbed nine rebounds to pace DePauw, while Moore dished out six assists.

Brandon Crawford led Albion with 23 points with Evan Way chipping in 19. Each grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Mike Bailey recorded 10 assists in the win.

The Tigers shot 47.5 percent from the floor including 53.3 percent in the second half, but the Britons knocked down 54.7 percent from the floor and outscored DePauw from the line 16-8. DePauw held a 37-32 advantage on the boards.
