Sewanee 78, SUNY-Maritime 61SEWANEE, Tenn. — Sewanee freshman Ben Pursell had a team-high 17 points in his first college game as the host Tigers defeated Maritime College (N.Y.) , 78-61, in the first game of the Lon Varnell Classic in a NCAA Division III men's basketball game at Juhan Gym.
Pursell had seven baskets and was 3 of 4 from the line. Teammates James Pryor and Joey Garcia each had 13 points. For Maritime (0-1), Jay Gilbert had game-high honors with 19 points (8 FGMs, 3 of 4 FTs). Teammate Robert Benton had 17 points.
