Greensboro, which shot 52-percent (26-50) in the game, needed a late rally to earn the victory. GC trailed by 12 points (59-47) with 9:29 left and by 6 with (62-56) with 5 minutes remaining.
James Newman (11 points) made two free throws with 53 seconds left that put GC ahead 65-64. He later added two more from the charity stripe with 15 seconds on the clock for the final 67-64 margin. Newman played just 15 minutes due to foul trouble..
Justin Battle tallied 15 points (6-9 from the field), Lamont Watson (5-6 shooting) chipped in with 13 for The Pride.
Bryan Galuski got a win in his first game as a head coach. "We needed to step up because James Newman got in foul trouble," Galuski said. "We shot well for the game, which was a big key."
Jake Baldwin and Mike Adams scored 21 and 20 points respectively for Piedmont (0-1).
