McNeese State 68, Mary Hardin-Baylor 63

Sulphur, La.; — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball team gave an NCAA Division I opponent all it could handle, but a late Crusader rally fell just short in a 68-63 loss to McNeese State University Friday night in Sulphur, Louisiana. The UMHB men are 0-1 to start the season. The D-I Cowboys start the season at 1-0.
UMHB fought back from an early deficit and only trailed by three points with eight seconds remaining. The Crusaders were forced to foul and the Cowboys hit both free throws to provide the final margin.
Brandon Gatlin led UMHB with 18 points and Jimmy Carter added 12 points for the Crusaders. Justin Schwartz had eight points and eight rebounds for UMHB.
The Crusaders will return to action and open American Southwest Conference play next weekend. The UMHB men will travel to Clarksville, Arkansas to take on University of the Ozarks in a 3:00 PM start on Saturday, November 26th. The Crusaders will then face Austin College on Monday, November 28th for a 7:30 PM tip-off in Sherman, Texas.
