Christa Margossian opened the scoring for MIT as she converted a feed from Kimberly Soo Hoo less than a minute into the contest. The Engineers (1-0) extended their lead when Sharon Prange found Clara Yuan for a back-door lay-up. Soo Hoo added a fast-break lay-up before a pair of free throws from Brittany Rauscher put St. Joseph’s on the board at 17:13. The Monks stayed within striking distance for most of the half until Tech posted a 10-point lead (25-15) on a jumper by Karen Kinnman with 7:33 left. MIT entered the intermission with a 46-30 advantage and continued to roll in the second stanza as its lead grew to 26 points (62-36) at the 11:38 mark.
Yuan, Soo Hoo, and Kinnaman each tallied 18 points while Soo Hoo added 10 assists. Prange and Kinnaman both collected eight rebounds apiece as Prange contributed 10 points.
For St. Joseph’s, Kaylin Regula led the way with 14 points and eight boards. Rauscher finished with 11 points and six assists while Megan Farrell totaled 10 points and four blocks.
In the night cap, Maine Maritime registered seven unanswered points until Beth Pinkham put Gordon on the board three minutes into the contest. The Fighting Scots were then held scoreless until 14:35, when they faced an eight-point (12-4) deficit. The Mariners eventually built a double-digit lead with 8:52 to go in the half on a basket from Alyssa Burns. Maine Maritime held a 31-17 edge at halftime and extended its lead to 30 (62-32) with under seven minutes left to play.
Burns finished the night with a game-high 15 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-5 performance from the free-throw line. Michelle Gott registered 19 points as she also shot 50 percent from the floor (8-16) including hitting 3-of-6 from behind the arc. Valerie Robitaille dominated the offensive glass with seven rebounds and a total of 10 boards.
Beth Pinkham paced Gordon with 15 points while Kristen Helgessen collected a game-high 11 caroms. Amy Dodd dished out seven assists as she grabbed seven rebounds.
