Heidelberg 110, Temple Baptist 68

TIFFIN, OH — On a frigid night in Northwest Ohio, the Heidelberg men’s basketball team played smoking hot basketball to open the season with a 110-68 win over the Temple Baptist College Rams. The Berg capitalized on the undersized Rams as they would get 59 points from their front three. Temple Baptist wasn’t able to overcome poor shooting and the swarming ‘Berg defenders, as they were plagued by 18 turnovers and 25 of 78 shooting on the night. The warm air in Seiberling played to the Berg’s advantage as they shot 49 of 73 from the floor for 67 percent on the game.

Leading the way for the Tricolor was sophomore post Bryan Schmidt. Schmidt would shoot 10 of 12 from the floor on his way to scoring a game high 22 points in just 20 minutes of action. Heidelberg would place another four players in double figures for the evening. Schmidt was followed closely by fellow sophomore Andrew Lemmon, who dropped in 19 points along with grabbing seven rebounds. Following Schmidt and Lemmon were junior Ron Higgins (18 points, five rebounds), and sophomores Shawn Shriver (15 points, four assists) and Greg Tyson (10 points, four assists). All but one Berg player would get in the scoring column against the visitors from Cincinnati.

Heidelberg will return to action in day two of the Tiffin Hampton Inn Coaches vs. Cancer Classic tomorrow at the Gillmor Center on the campus of Tiffin University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
