Fredonia State 64, Emerson 60

NEWARK, N.J. — A perfect seven for seven night from the floor by sophomore Kyle Gordon propelled the Fredonia State men’s basketball team to a 64-60 win over Emerson College.

In a contest that was close throughout, Gordon had 19 points and 10 rebounds. The game featured six ties and five lead changes in the second half.

For the game Fredonia State shot 57% from the floor, including 61% (11 of 18) in the second half. Emerson made good on only 38% of their tries.

Junior forward Kevin Reichlmayr, who finished with 12 points and four steals, hit a pair of free throws with 4:38 left to put the Blue Devils ahead for good at 54-53. Senior guard Tim Anderson hit a layup nearly two minutes later before senior guard Mike Kelly added two free throws at 2:27 to push the Fredonia lead to 58-53.

Emerson twice cut the lead to one in the final minute. Sophomore guard Will Dawkins converted a conventional 3-point play with 53 seconds left and junior guard Alfredo Tovar slipped inside for a layup with 14 ticks remaining to make it 61-60.

Reichlmayr hit a pair of free throws following an intentional foul call with six seconds left before junior guard Taha Alassari iced the contest with four second by hitting the second of two charity tosses.

Senior guard Chris Donahue had 13 points for Fredonia while Kelly added 10 points. Alassari dished out a game-high six assists.

Dawkins finished with a game-high 23 points and added five assists for the Lions while Tovar chipped in 13 points, four assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Ben Chase had 10 points and a team-high three steals.
