Potsdam State 67, St. John Fisher 43

AMHERST, Mass. — SUNY Potsdam handed St. John Fisher College its first loss of the season, as the Bears crushed the Cardinals 67-43 on Friday at Amherst College in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Sectional Semifinals. St. John Fisher was the only remaining undefeated men’s college basketball team in the nation.

The Bears took the lead in the first three minutes of play and never gave the Cardinals a chance to catch up. The Bears led 28-15 at half time. The previously undefeated team struggled, while the Bears led at some points during the game by 23 points.

Leading the Bears were Jim Connelly, Junior Clayton, and Edane Barton. Connelly finished with 16 points and seven steals, while Clayton and Barton each finished with 11 points. Potsdam shot 15-for-26 (57.7%) from the floor in the second half and finished the game shooting 51% (25-for-49) against the Cardinals.

Potsdam (27-3) advances to the sectional championship and will play the University of Rochester at 7 p.m. Saturday in Amherst, MA. The University of Rochester downed Amherst College 69-62. The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the Division III Final Four in Salem, Virginia.
