The Bullets took an early 11-10 lead at the 14:32 mark in the first half on a dunk by senior David Glaser (West Chester, PA) and continued to lead as they took a 33-27 lead into the locker room. Gettysburg started the second half where the left off as they would build a lead of as many as 10 early in the half, 27-37. The Tartans would get back on track as they put together a 10-0 run to take the lead for the first time since early in the first half 43-41 with 10:59 left in regulation. The Bullets would not go away as they regained the lead 47-45 two minutes later and held it over the next 6:31 before the Tartans senior Eliot Goren (Silver Spring, MS/Bullis School) hit two free throws to put the Tartans on top for good 58-57 with 2:28 to play.
Carnegie Mellon was 12 of 12 from the line in the last 2:28 of the game and held Gettysburg to just one field goal coming as time ran out. The Tartans shot 26 of 32 (81.3%) from the line to the Bullets 7 of 10 (70%).
Carnegie Mellon had three players in double figures leading the way was junior Clayton Barlow-Wilcox (Brookline, MA/Brookline) who finished with a game high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds. Senior Michael Divens (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford) cashed in with 17 points and a game high nine rebounds and recorded two blocks. Junior Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, PA/Linsly School) finished with 12.
The Bullets leading score was sophomore Mike Spadafora (Richboro, PA) finishing with 16 and added six rebounds. Gettysburg only other player in double figures was sophomore Brian Sateja (Morristown, NJ) as he end the evening with 11 points making five of six from the floor.
Carnegie Mellon will travel to Franklin & Marshall and play Catholic Friday, March 4 at 8:00 pm in the semifinals of the 2005 ECAC Southern Men’s Basketball Championship.
