Rich, Thomas Cruise Past Presque Isle
Final score, Thomas College 107, U-Maine Presque Isle 72
WATERVILLE, Jan. 30 — Thomas fans knew that junior guard Adam Rich was close to scoring 1,000 points, but what happened on Sunday night was far from expected. Thomas College defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle 107-72, with the help of an incredible 51-point effort from Rich at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
Adam Rich began the game needing just nine points to reach 1,000 in his career, but he left no doubt about his totals by scoring a career high 51 points as well as breaking the Thomas College record for three pointers made in a game with 12. Rich also became the number two single-game scorer in Thomas College’s history, bringing back memories of the1988 63 point effort by Thomas graduate Joey DeRoche.
Maine Presque Isle stayed in the game in the first half thanks to the shooting of Fabian Lenox, who scored 29 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Owls. Thomas took a 49-42 lead into the intermission on the strength of Rich’s 25 first half points.
James Godley added 14 for the victors.
Presque Isle’s record moves to 3-12 on the year and the Terriers improve to 6-11.
The Terriers next game is on February 2. They will be playing Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine at 5:30 p.m.
